On October 23, as part of our Seminar II course, we had the opportunity to experience exterior wall construction at the workshop of Sakura Saku, who have been incredibly supportive of our lab. We were joined by 18 third-year undergraduate students who are interested in our laboratory.
Hiroyuki Uehara from Sakura Saku explained the tools, materials, and construction methods to us. We then split into groups and worked together on measuring, marking, cutting and shaping materials, and attaching them to the wall.
I believe this was a valuable experience for the third-year students, giving them a hands-on understanding of the challenges of construction, the skills required, how different tools and methods affect the learning process, and the properties of various materials. It also reminded me how wonderful it is for students, who have so much to learn, to grow through interacting and working with many different people.
By learning so much along the way, we managed to create a really beautiful wall!
After the construction work, we all enjoyed a barbecue together. We talked about university life, work, our future plans, and much more. I feel that we were able to strengthen our friendships and get to know each other much better! A huge thank you to everyone who helped with the preparations and supported us throughout the day.
The third-year students will soon be working on a project to design a tiny house, so we wish you all the best! We look forward to the day when you join our laboratory! ♪
